Why Can’t Orbi Satellite Connect to Router?

- Advertisement -spot_imgspot_img

Orbi mesh system includes a router and one or more satellites. These devices are placed in different parts of the home which creates a mesh. This helps in getting network connections in all the parts of the home. Orbi can be set up using the web interface or Orbi app. The satellites can be connected to the router during or after the setup.  If you are facing issues with connecting the Orbi satellite to the router, then this troubleshooting guide will be helpful. Whether the satellite was previously connected, or you are trying to connect it for the first time, the hacks provided here will assist you in getting rid of the problem.

How to Connect Orbi Router and Satellite?

Before proceeding toward the troubleshooting part, confirm if you are using the correct steps to connect the devices or not. Perhaps you are using the wrong procedure which is why the devices are not getting connected. Here is how you connect the Orbi router and satellite:

  1. Place the Orbi router and satellite in the same room.
  2. Turn on the Orbi router.
  3. Also, turn on the satellite.
  4. Let the devices get connected automatically.
  5. If they are not getting connected then connect them manually.
  6. Press the Sync button on the router.
  7. Within two minutes, press the Sync button on the satellite as well.

Observe the ring light on the satellite. If the light is blue this means they are connected properly. If you see Orbi pink light this means the sync failed.

You now need to try some troubleshooting steps given in the next section.

How to Fix Orbi Router & Satellite Not Connecting Issue?

1.    Place the Devices Closer

Make sure that the Orbi router and the satellite are placed closer to each other while you are trying to sync them. If the devices are placed far from each other then it becomes difficult for them to communicate with each other. While syncing them, place them closer. Once the sync is done, you can move the satellite to a new location in the home. However, the satellite must always sit within the network range of the router.

2.    Check Power Supply

Poor power supply to any or both devices can also be the reason why they are not getting synced with each other. Check the power cable for any damage. Also, check the power socket. Make sure that the power supply is consistent and then try to sync them.

3.    Press the Correct Button

Are you sure you are pressing the right button on both devices to connect them? Perhaps you are not and hence are failing to get the job done. There is another possibility that the button is broken. You have the option of using the button in the dashboard. You need to access the Orbi router login page and press the button by going to the settings of your Orbi device.

Apart from this, you should ensure that you are pressing the buttons on both devices within two minutes. Taking longer time than that will not be helpful.

4.    Verify Internet Connection

Check the internet connection before connecting the devices. Use a good Ethernet cable to make the connections between the Orbi router and modem. Also, make sure that the cable is not connected loosely and is inserted in the right ports on both devices.

5.    Reboot Orbi

Perform a reboot if you are still stuck with the same issue. You need to disconnect all the devices. Remove the Ethernet cable between the router and modem. Also, disconnect the power cables of the modem, router and satellite. After waiting for at least 5 minutes, make the connections once again. Turn on the modem first and then the router and finally the satellite. Try to sync them now. You should be able to get the devices connected now without any trouble.

6.    Reset Orbi

Did nothing work so far? Reset the Orbi to the factory settings. This will definitely help in fixing the issue at hand. Turn on the Orbi router and press the Reset button located on it. After this, set it up once again from scratch.

Verdict

We hope you have successfully connected the Orbi satellite to the router after the setup is done. You can now move the satellite to a new location and connect devices to its network and enjoy.
